The New Wave of Rapid Diagnostic Testing

About BioVei

BioVei is a Sino-US joint-venture combining the qualities and strengths of a US based R&D company with that of one of China’s largest pharmaceutical companies, to produce state of the art diagnostic products.

BioVei’s enzymatic chemistry has proven to provide superior advantages to other medical diagnostic products on the market, with extremely high accuracy, ease of use and point of care results within minutes from sample collection.

Competitive rapid tests use lateral flow technology which can be as low as 65%, or less, accurate.  The gold standard, NAAT/PCR, requires many hours or days for the result, and is flawed because it can detect dead cells, therefore giving a false result.

Science behind the BioVei test:

Since the early 1950’s microbiologists have been studying and utilizing enzymes as a method of detecting bacteria.  They discovered specificity of enzymes to microorganisms, however, most companies stopped using enzyme methods, and switched to antigen/antibody or NAAT technologies in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

BioVei, however, has maintained and continued its research and has discovered specific bacterial enzymes for a host of microorganisms.  Over the years, BioVei has developed its proprietary substrates which identify and link to the specific enzymes.  Other diagnostic systems must find the bacteria cell itself, or replicate DNA utilizing a PCR/NAAT system, which will take, in most cases, more than a day to obtain results from the time of sample collection.  In the case of BioVei’s diagnostic systems, a bacteria can be producing thousands of molecules of an enzyme which increases the odds and shortens the time of being detected at a much faster rate than any other methods of detection.

BioVei’s tests utilize proprietary substrates which, when hydrolyzed by a specific enzyme (during peptide hydrolysis), produces a fluorescence which can be read colormetricly by adding a color developing agent.  The foundation for BioVei’s success is the fact that the technology is based on the detection of specific enzymes produced by specific microorganisms or bacteria.

BioVei Rapid Diagnostic Tests for Infectious Diseases

BioVei’s Diagnostic Tests are easy to use, fast, and can be stored at room temperature.  BioVei’s Diagnostic Tests require no equipment or laboratory time or expense.

BioVei’s Diagnostic Test devices contain a swab and testing chemicals (self-contained).  After a specimen has been taken, one BioVei test reagent is released from one end of the device.  After 10 minutes, the reagent from the opposite end is released and the reaction is read on the tip of the swab.  If positive, a blue color will appear.

BioQuik Confirmation Tests

BioVei also carries a line of confirmation tests, BioQuikTM.

BioQuikTM confirms the presence or absence of specific organisms from a first growth plate.

The BioQuikTM confirmation tests are easier to use than traditional culture methods and yield the results in less than thirty minutes, following the first growth.

BioQuikTM confirmation test cards utilize synthetic substrates which, in the presence of an enzyme specific to an infectious disease, causes a chemical reaction.  This reaction, when coupled to a developing agent, causes a color to appear on the filter membrane; or is visible under a fluorescent light without the addition of a developing agent.

BioQuikTM Confirmation Test’s ready to use reagents have extended shelf life and room temperature storage.
