The New Wave of Rapid Diagnostic Testing

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: What is the difference between BioVei’s POC test for Chlamydia and other POC tests for Chlamydia?

A: BioVei’s POC (and OTC) tests for Chlamydia detect a specific enzyme produced by Chlamydia.  Other POC tests for Chlamydia are lateral flow tests which detect antigens produced by Chlamydia.

Q: What about accuracy?

A: BioVei’s test for Chlamydia has been found to be in the high 90’s percent accurate when compared to the gold standard, which is NAAT/PCR.  The lateral flow tests for Chlamydia are 50 – 65 % accurate.

Q: How long does it take to obtain a result?

A: BioVei’s tests provide a result (positive or negative) in approximately 10 minutes from sample collection.

Q: Are BioVei’s tests easy to use?

A: Yes, BioVei’s tests are easy to use, even a lay person can perform the test (self testing).

Q: What about storage?

A: BioVei’s tests can be stored at room temperature.

Q: Wasn’t there a similar test on the market in Europe a few years ago?

A: Yes there was, however that test was discontinued and has not produced for several years.

Q: Wasn’t there some problems with that prior test?

A: Technically no, the test was very accurate.  However, the prior test positive result was a purple color.  Some people had a difficult time (or reluctant) to identify the purple color as positive.  A negative could sometimes result in a pink color, so for some people, the difference between a purple positive and a pink negative was confusing.

Q: Will there be any confusion with BioVei test for Chlamydia regarding the positive color?

A: There is no confusion with BioVei’s test for Chlamydia’s positive color as it is a dark “BLUE”.  No one can confuse a “Blue” positive with a possible pink negative.
